July 5, 2017 - Dove to Dangling

My new Flagstaff house cuts the distance from my Mesa home in half for getting to Powell but it's still tough to get on the water at first light but I did find some willing participants for top water when I arrived in the Dove Canyon area at 7:30 this morning. A TW popper worked on LM, SM, and stripers for 90 minutes and then the TRD Finesse 'Ned Rig' went to work for another 90 minutes in the same area and uplake toward Dungeon Canyon.

I also trolled a DT6 shad colored crank in the Dungeon Bay Area early afternoon after a Dangling Rope refreshment stop and after the plastic bite slowed down. The shallow trolling isn't as good right now with the bass staying deeper but I did catch some good smallies, LM and a walleye doing it. I used the Merc Verado trolling feature and ran the GPS speed at 3.2 mph. After not being to the lake for almost a year I forgot how rough the water can be in spots just from the busy boat traffic. Glad I went with the biggest boat Phoenix had to offer this time for my old back!
