Home 2016-2017 Lake Powell Tagged Walleye Contest! May 15, 2017 - Another tag in GHB

May 15, 2017 - Another tag in GHB

Randy Leonard and I just returned from another great Lake Powell fishing trip. Our trip from Western Colorado almost ended in disaster when we lost complete steering control of our truck going down the highway at approximately sixty miles per hour near Hanksville.
Luckily we were on a straight part of the road and got things shut down without ending up in the ditch. After being towed back to Hanksville, the mechanic found and repaired the problem and we were back on the road three hours later knowing just how lucky we were. Once on the lake we headed to the Good Hope Bay area hoping to catch a few walleye. We made camp and started fishing at about 2:30 Thursday afternoon when our luck continued. I was fishing a brown single tailed grub near the bottom when I caught this tagged walleye  ( tag # 2733 ) off a rocky point in twenty feet of water. This pattern worked well all weekend. We caught over thirty walleye and many SM bass, strippers and a few crappie using various colored single tailed gubs with brown being our most productive color. The water in the GHB area is starting to get quite stained but is still fishable, the water level is also rising rapidly and probably came up a foot in the three days we spent on the lake. We are looking forward to our next trip in a few weeks.
