Nightfished Bullfrog Bay on 11/29 and 11/30 into the early morning of 12/1. We used 1/4 oz and 1/8 oz jigs and also tried a circle hook. We used pieces of anchovies cut into quarters or so. Put a green underwater light out. Our "Killerfishlight" has been pretty reliable.

Started after dark and hooked the first fish about 7:30 PM or so on Monday. Proceeded to have trouble turning bites into hookups the rest of the night. It is amazing to me how gently a full grown Striper can hit the bait. Ended up catching a few fish and it was worth braving the cold and wind.

Tuesday evening we started at sunset. Chummed just a little, brought in modest amounts of plankton and no visible shad. But what I guess are either small schools or single Stripers are attracted to our bait and give a little tap. Some eat the bait but most need a hook set. There were times we went maybe 20 or 30 minutes without a bite but usually had some sort of action every few minutes. We managed to land 36 Stripers before the need to rest for the drive home took over around 1AM. Missed at least three times that many hook sets and had a few fish break off, straighten the hook or break the line. One fish that I think was much larger than average swam straight down after being hooked. It was pulling the drag pretty well and when I tried to slow it down the line snapped. The line is in good shape and broke near the rod tip. 8 pound test. I need more practice with big ones. I do OK catching average sizes back reeling when needed with 4 pound test and a circle hook. But it is just not the same. My pole with 12 pound Flourocarbon just does not get as many bites as the 8.

The heaviest fish we filleted was 24" long and 4.5 lbs. The average length was 22". We did not get into but one small Striper and not too many skinny ones.
